Yeti 100

June 26, 2026

The fifth time and the last time
27:41:27, 92nd 100

Well that went as well as expected. I was a little bit worried about the forecast for rain. It rained we got wet, sun came out dried us a bit, then more rain, more wet. Change clothes, change socks. More rain, add a poncho. Rain stopped, take off poncho, sprinkle rain on and off. Yup, lots of costume changes to deal with the rain. Fortunately it wasn’t cold so it was fine.

Yeti is a relatively flat100 that has a downhill section for about ten miles, then you have to run back up that section. We do go through the 2.4 mile tunnel twice and then five out and backs east of the tunnel which are all flat miles, lots of gravel and pud muddles this year.

During the last three recent 100 mile races I have a moment where I don’t care to finish my 100 hundreds. I say who cares about this list and goal. I just want to be done with hundreds. I have a brief pity party and then move on and get er done. I suppose if I didn’t feel this way it would be weird, well the whole thing is weird. 92 is close but not really as I still need 8 more and they are taking a greater toll these days.

The one silver lining of all of the out and backs is you get to see people and cheer each other on so that was fun and most people are smiling. This smile thing is real because it makes you feel better and gets you going.  The aid stations were great as Chad Ultra and family had good eats and treats. I found the mashed potato quesadilla to work for me and lemonade was a nice treat. I made some inari stuffed with seasoned rice and avocado, yum. I think I’m fueling myself better and this is keeping me happier on the trail. Still it is a struggle to eat much later in a hundred.

Aurora dropped me off and picked me up. Good strategy to get it done. It has been a joy to have her around this summer before she heads off to the peace corps service in North Macedonia. I missed my friends because no BIRCs were at Yeti this year. I will see them soon at another race. I listened to two books and would recommend one called The Correspondent. Thanks Jason and crew for putting on another successful event.
